Training Philosophy:

There is no reason you have to put yourself or your dog through a training program that is based on using pain or scare tactics.
Training should be something both ends of the leash feel good about.
  • It should be something that the two of you look forward to doing.
  • It should be fun for both of you.
  • It should be done in a way that strengthens the bond you have with one another.
The methods I use are simple ones that you can easily duplicate at your home, in your real world environment, allowing all your family members to participate.
Whatever your ultimate training goals are, I can help you develop the foundation skills necessary to set you on your way.
I invite you to contact me to get started on your training journey.
You and your dog will have a good time and you will love your results.
Children over 6 years of age are strongly encouraged to actively engage in all my classes.
Classes are held in the beautiful training facility at K9 Playtime 406 Washington Boulevard, Mundelein, IL. (See map below)

About me (Lisa Balderstone):
I actively compete in AKC Agility with my devoted companions Louie and Griffin. Louie is a rescued Border Collie who was found stray, did some time at a shelter, landed a spot in a breed rescue and eventually found his way into my family. Louie now has his MACH, CDX, MB, MJB, CGC Obedience and Agility titles. Griffin, is equally spectacular. In the short 2.5 years we've been showing together in Agility, Griffin has already earned his first MACH, MXB and MJB titles. He also has his CGC, CGCA and his Intermediate Trick Dog titles.

I took in my very first rescue when I was 11 years of age, a 3-year old Dalmatian who suffered from an extreme lack of socialization to people, dogs and environment; a dog that was chained-up 24/7, inside the home and outside. I begged my parents to talk to the owners to see if they would let me have the dog. That family couldn't wait to get rid of their problem and said "yes". We had our share of troubles with Dali: like bolting out the front door, not coming when called and pulling like crazy on leash. Over time, she became a relaxed and cherished companion, who I loved with all my heart.

20 years ago, I became formally involved with rescue organizations and have helped to re-home and rehabilitate hundreds of dogs. By taking in foster dogs, I have worked with all kinds of issues and seen all kinds of reasons that dogs are given up. One of the most common reasons is that the dog hasn't developed impulse control and he simply doesn't know what to do with himself... an entirely fixable problem. That's why the classes that I teach focus so heavily on gaining (and maintaining) your dog's engagement.

You can accomplish just about anything with your dog when you pay attention to one another, remain calm and you have:
  • clear & realistic goals
  • respectful communication
  • the ability to catch your dog getting it right

You are invited to stop by and watch a class in session (without your dog). You’ll like what you see!
